14 June 2011 - Phew! Time to relax a little now that the Teddy Bear Artist Event is over with. The build up to it has been full-on, what with working full time and trying to get new critters made but it was definitely worth it. Sunday was a wonderful day and Ian and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't get much time to have a proper look around myself as I wanted to be by my table meeting everyone, but I did manage to buy some new supplies which I'm eager to make use of!
For a first timer taking part in a show the Stratford event was a lovely one to be part of and I greatly appreciate Samantha Potter inviting me to attend. Many of my bears, ducks and rabbits went off to new homes and I was pleasantly surprised at everyones' response to them. I should have made more ducks though...! I had two on display and they were receiving quite a lot of attention, in a good way :o)
I can't rest on my laurels for too long though as I have to complete some orders but once they are done, I will start creating again as my whim dictates.
I would like to say a huge, big thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by my stand at the Stratford show and for being so complimentary about my little creations - you made my head swell and Ian was feeling very proud of his wife too... ;o) Also, I have to say an extra special big thank you to those of you who gave a home to a Sarian orphan. It is very much appreciated, and especially to the two ladies who took home Maya and Alf - I hope your mini bear enterprise takes off a storm and do keep in touch. :o) :o)
Mini bear hugs to everyone...!

9th April 2011 - Preparations are well and truly underway for my first ever bear show this year. I will be attending the 2011 Teddy Bear Artist Event in Stratford upon Avon in June so I'm busy stitching away to get my 'display team' together for the day. I've also been putting my thinking cap on about how to display then at the show as it's not something I've had to think about in the past having never taken part in a bear event before, but I think that between hubby and me, we've come up with a solution. Hopefully the bears and critters will feel proud to be shown off to the public. I will post up a show preview when I have a few creations finished, but here's how far I've got with the preparations to date...

4 February 2011 - It's been a while since I last made any updates here. Sorry! It's been a strange couple of months what with one thing and another. Christmas and New Year went by in a flash after being laid up in bed poorly for a week before then! I can't believe that we're now into February... where did January go?
I also lost my beary mojo for a while but it soon came back when I started work on a new design. Alfie was the result. A teal coloured scruffy little guy, slightly larger than my usual bears at 4 inches with a bigger head and smaller ears. I've been working on a lovely cashmere rabbit lately which I was very proud of until I decided that one of the legs needed a bit more stuffing in it! The end result is now a messed up closing seam and much annoyance and frustration on my part. I don't think the fabric likes to be restitched. I'm now thinking about making another pair of legs and a new body as I don't think the current body will withstand being unpicked and opened up to remove the spoiled leg. In the mean time I've got some lovely orangey-pink vintage fabric to make into another rabbit. I will post pictures when he/she is finished and if you wish to be one of the first to be notified of my newbies, please add your details to my mailing list or join us on Facebook.

23 November 2010 - Phew! What a fantastic weekend. It's now Tuesday and I still feel like I'm recovering from the preparations. The Teddies Worldwide Holiday Bear Show was a great success according to the organiser, with over 7000 individual visitors coming to the online show throughout the weekend. From my point of view I too would agree that it was a success with three bears, one rabbit and a 'duckie' now making their way to new homes. As a browser to the show I was amazed at the wealth of talent taking part. There really were some wonderful bears and critters from around the globe on show proving what a skillful, imaginative and sometimes humourous lot they all are.
A great deal of thanks has to go to Daphne of Back Road Bears for the idea and then the organisation of the whole event. Her organisational skills know no bounds and it was no mean feat to get the event up and running and keep to schedule. Apart from Daphne herself taking part, there were 74 other artists who had to be organised, chased after and cajouled into getting their show pages finished on time, as well as their bears and other critters of course! I'm sure that the success of this show is just a taste of things to come. There is another online show planned for March 2011 so watch this space.... Hopefully Sarian Miniature Bears will be at that one too.

30 October 2010 - Work on my creations for Teddies Worldwide on-line teddy bear show is well underway and I'm hoping to have quite a few looking for new homes. There will be a sneak preview of the work of all the artists who are taking part on 15 November at www.teddiesworldwide.com. There are 75 artists from all over the world taking part in this event, making it the largest on-line show of it's kind. Daphne Blue of Back Road Bears has put in a lot of effort to bring this show to fruition and her amazing organistion of it all means that it's set to be an exciting event. So please do come along and see what beary delights there are on offer and maybe even give a home to one or two..... or more.... ;o). I will be sending out messages about the show progress via my mailing list and also on the Sarian Miniature Bears Facebook page. If you wish to receive updates by email, please just add your details to my mailing list link from the Home page.

22 September 2010 - I have registered to take part in an on-line show during 20-21 November which is set to be the biggest on-line show of its kind with 75 bear artists worldwide taking part (www.teddiesworldwide.com). I will be posting up more information about it nearer the time and sending out information via my mailing list. If you wish to be notified by email please join my mailing list which you can do from my Home Page.

19 September 2010 - What a weekend and I'm still buzzing with excitement! It started on Friday night when I decided to switch on the computer and check to see if the shortlist had been completed for the British Bear Artist Awards. It had! I couldn't believe my eyes when I scrolled down through the categories, saw my same at Category 6, got incredibley excited, scrolled down some more and lo and behold.... I was there again at Category 10! If the house next door was currently occupied they would have heard my squeals and clapping, I'm sure of it! I then proceeded to tell anyone and everyone about it!
So now I guess I've got a trip to Brighton to plan for in December. The final judging will be done in the fur at the British Bear Fair event, so it would be rude not to attend, though I'm not sure how I'll feel watching the judges make their decisions..... gulp! I think a day kitesurfing at Brighton on the Saturday is in order and then a day spent "at the races" so to speak on the Sunday, as the British Bear Fair is being held at Brighton Racecourse.
For those of you interested, the next edition of Teddy Bear Times magazine will have a preview of all the shortlisted creations.

16 September 2010 - Where did the summer go? Did we have one...? It's gone by in a flash and already Christmas items are appearing in the shops.... bah-humbug! We have been making the most of our weekends this year with plenty of camping and kitesurfing weekends away, meeting up with friends and enjoying the beaches. This was our first year living in Wales too and we've been making the most of the South Wales beaches that are on offer to those of us that need the sea, sand and wind fix! It's certainly a good way to blow the cobwebs away.
I've not been sitting on my laurels where my bears are concerned either. I've had orders to complete and then I devoted my time to my entries for the British Bear Artist Awards, which I decided to enter this year for the first time. Needless to say, I'm not expecting anything but still remain hopeful. This must the same for everyone who has entered. There are some exceedingly talented people out there and I'd hate to be one of the judges making the decisions.
I've also registered to be part of an on-line teddy auction in November, full details can be seen at: http://backroadevents.blogspot.com/p/worldwide-teddies-online-shows.html and http://www.facebook.com/pages/Teddies-Worldwide-Online-Bear-Shows/107756305952229?ref=mf. This will be a first for me as I have yet to take part in any teddy show, physical or on-line so I'm very much looking forward to it and of course for my yet to be created bears to find new homes.

24 May 2010 - It's been a while since my last news update but I've not been wasting my time. I want to share with you my latest creation, made at the special request of a long-standing Sarian Miniature Bear collector. It's taken some time to get to the final result but the effort was worth it and I hope you agree.
I am also into my third week of training in preparation to complete a half marathon in October. I'm not quite sure how it happened but I came home from work one evening only for my husband to great me and ask if I wanted to run the half marathon with him. My first answer cannot be repeated here, but his quiet persuasion throughout the night made me give in with a final demand that I get some proper trainers! We went to a running shop in Swansea that weekend!!!
The training has not been easy - I'm not a youngster anymore (unless we are talking mental age...) and I don't remember getting so many aches and pains when I used to do a lot of running in my much younger days! As hubby keeps telling me, it's the weaknesses leaving my body.... Who's kidding who here...? In my mind pain = stop! But alas, I've made the committment and I'm now determined to do it. Anyway, in between the training after work, which is every other day (shock, horror) I am trying to remain creative, so as I mentioned earlier, I have recently finished my 'duckie with attitude' and here he is...

He sits at 2.5" tall, has wired arms for posing, legs which flop around and his body is loosely stuffed with cotton stuffing and steel shot.

28 March 2010 - I finished my first little scruffy bear late last night, or maybe I should say very early this morning seeing as the clocks went forward an hour! I really enjoyed making this bear as the worn, scruffy look is not my usual style. I found it hard when stitching the nose to make it look untidy as I'm so used to trying to make them as perfect as I can. The bear is still in a contemporary style with a new 2-piece head pattern but I wanted him to have the 'old' appeal. I hope it has worked.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23 March 2010 - You can now join us on Facebook. Sarian Miniature Bears has a fan page here. There has been much discussion on a forum for bears artists about the pros and cons of having the bears on Facebook, Twitter, blogs etc, etc and I've decided to give Facebook a try and see how it goes. I made the decision long ago not to have a blog as I spend too much time on the computer as it is, plus I would only feel guilty about not keeping it updated regularly. I hope to keep the Facebook pages updated with my new creations as well as sending updates to those of you who have signed up to my mailing list.
As ever, feel free to send in your comments and suggestions or join us on Facebook. :o)

27 February 2010 - Well, it's been a busy time on the bear front. I have 3 orders to complete and at the same time I want to try and keep new bears coming for the website. I've started working on a few bears at a time which so far is working quite well. I even take sewing to work with me to do during my lunch hour. I can just about manage to stitch a little arm in that time!
My evenings are taken up with the bears too and I've been experimenting with changing my head pattern. My rabbit design has a two-piece head pattern, so I decided to give the two-piece head pattern a try with my bears and so far Myrtle and Petit Bleu are the result. It was one of those moments when I thought 'why have I not done this before...?' One of my orders is for a completely different creature and I'm still working on the pattern, but all won't be revealed until it is completely finished. I just hope that it turns out how I want it too. I want it to be quirky and comical at the same time.
Anyway, back to the bears...

This is my current work area - my 'workshop in a cupboard' where all my little creatures are brought to life. If you look closely, you can just make out Petit Bleu on the desk waiting for his arms to be attached. |

15 February 2010 - Changes are afoot! Last week I managed to complete my course that I started in November with Pitman Training in Cardiff and I have also managed to get myself a full time job, at last, which has been no easy task in this current climate since we moved to South Wales. The bears and the course have helped me to keep my sanity, but it has also been a time of reflection.
Since our move and the large amount of time I've had to spend on the bears, I have realised just how much I enjoy making them and that I've missed it. Since returning to the UK end of 2008, the bears have very much taken a back seat, but since Christmas I've decided to put more effort into the bears and take a more business minded approach to it. Although I will be working full time again, it just means that I will have to manage my time at home better. So do keep popping back every now again to have a look at future little orphans looking for new homes to go to... :o) Of course, if you want to be updated each time, just put your name down for my mailing list, which can be done from the Home Page.

10th January 2010 - Happy New Year to you all! Let's hope that it's a good and successful year for everyone. I'm hoping that it will see me get the job that I really want to do but I need to finish my course first, so I've quite a bit of revision to get done. It's good to get the old grey matter working again, but just when I think I've learnt something, the next day I seem to have forgotten it! It must mean that I am getting old!
The snowy weather has been very welcome from the point of view of being creative as it has meant that I have been able to get my very first rabbit finished at last. I managed to complete the prototype rabbit before Christmas and then tweaked the design here and there to improve the look and Maisie is the result. I am really pleased with the overall look and I love the wired ears which makes for some very cute poses! Your opinion and comments on the design would be most welcome, so please feel free to let me know or post on my Guestbook.
:o) :o)

9th November 2009 - Finally, I've managed to finish some new bears and I hope that you like them. Times have been quite busy of late with our recent move from bonny Scotland to South Wales and I've been putting all of my efforts in to finding new employment. Things are starting to look a bit more promising on that front so fingers crossed...
I have plenty of ideas for new bears and I've yet to finish a rabbit design I started in the summer. So my next plan is to finish the prototype and maybe tweak the design here and there if I feel I need to, so keep your eyes peeled for some Sarian rabbits in the future.
Don't forget, feel free to leave any comments on my Guestbook or join my mailing list.

5th October 2009 - My bears and I have moved from Fife in Scotland to the the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales. We are still trying to sort ourselves out setting up the new home and getting everything in order which hopefully won't take too long - fingers crossed! My indoor 'bear workshop' has been rebuilt and the bear making paraphernalia has been returned to some kind of order after being stuffed into boxes by the removal men. I hope to have some new bears available very soon.

Saturday 23rd May was the grand outing for 6 of my latest little bears. My sister was happily married to a lovely young man and they were both very pleased with their wedding cake decoration - two Sarian Miniature Bears. The other four found new homes with the Bridesmaids.
The colours, types of fur and style were all chosen by my sister and niece but they didn't see the finished result until the special day, so I was a little apprehensive about them, but I needn't have been because they were very well received! The whole day was an absolute success and the bears were very happy to be going to their new homes.
Here are a few pictures....
